Happy Valentines Day 2023!

Today would have been my parents 80th wedding anniversary. They married in 1943 during the Second World War when my dad had a 3 day pass. I think I remember hearing that they had to grab some guy off the street to be a witness. They had somehow arranged a rabbi and my father’s family house for their venue.

Love endures in times of war and stress. I feel for the people of Syria and Turkey as well as folks from Haiti and Puerto Rico who have been pummeled by storms and earthquakes, and then there’s Ukraine. How do people continue? If you are hungry…Just go shopping? Where and for what. Is there even any water?

And yet. Out of the rubble in Syria was an infant saved. Someone had given birth recently, which means love (presumably) happened a little less recently.

And what about art? Has art endured the wars, earthquakes and upheaval lately? Is love and art relevant at these times?

I say yes. It soothes the soul and calms the heart and mind.
